My husband and I love sushi and Nama is our favorite place to go when we get a craving. My favorite roll is the SoyJoy. It's amazing! If you don't like sushi, just try this roll. It will change your life.
On Saturday we got a babysitter and had a day-date. First we went to lunch at Nama's new downtown location on Gay St. This was our first time at the new location and I have to say they did a great job with the place. It's very swanky and modern. I love the tiled wall behind the massive sushi bar and the lighting is just awesome. I decided I want to have my next birthday there! It looks fantastic.
When our server, Sheena, brought over our menus I immediately saw they had made a major change. Nama is offering sandwiches?! Hmmm..... I was a little worried I have to say. I mean, it's a sushi bar, not a deli. What seperates Nama from other sushi-serving restaraunts was it's menu only consited of sushi. Sure they had their delicious Warm Shrimp and Crab dip served with naan as an appetizer, but 95% of the menu was sushi. Now they are offering a Pork Sandwich? eh...
Hesitantly I studied the new items on the menu and one in particular caught my eye, a Fish Taco. I love fish tacos! But I was worried that getting a "sandwich" would change my idea of Nama and for the first time I might actually leave my favorite sushi bar unsatisfied. Decisions, decisions. Most sushi contains fish though, right? Upon asking the server what she thought, she said people "go crazy" over the Fish Taco. So, I ordered it with a SoyJoy roll on the side of course.
It was the most amazing Fish Taco I have ever eaten! And it was huge! Jon had to help me eat it and he agrees that it was awesome. I wish Nama's website would update it's menu so I could tell you exactly what was in the taco, but I can tell you it was heaven! I took a picture of my food with my phone. Aplogies for its blurriness. The taco filling was made up of fried whitefish, some yummy sauce, fresh pico de gallo, and there was something else. I'm not a food critic so I can't describe it exactly. It was all wrapped up in warm naan! How do you say "delicious" in Japanese?! Sorry SoyJoy but I may have a new favorite.
After our yummy to my tummy meal at Nama my sweet tooth kicked in. Just a few steps down from Nama is Coolato Gelato. I learned something new that day. Where Ice cream is made with cream, Gelato is made with milk and Sorbetto is made with water. I'm sure you can tell which one is the easiest on your waist line. Coolato Gelato makes awesome Sorbetto and Gelato. I got a piccolo of Lavendar Honey flavored Gelato and Peach flavored Sorbetto. The Honey Lavendar was to die for. It was rich and creamy and unique. The Peach was icey and very fresh tasting. They were two very different experiences. My favorite was the Honey Lavendar. They have lots of other yummy flavors ranging from Earl Grey all the way to Birthday Cake. I also saw Peanut Butter and Jelly, interesting! I also got a quick glimpse of their lunch menu. Smoked salmon and goat cheese sandwich? Yes, please! I think we will have to try out their food soon. Here is a pic of the Gelato/Sorbetto case that I took with my phone.
I must say, Saturday turned out to be a great day for food! To the gym I go!
Yummy! Sounds so good. I need to go try some more sushi and I've never even had a fish taco. Sounds good though! The pictures make it even better.
